Indigenous and youth films strike it big in 2012 Galah Awards!

FFoFF 2012

With over 350 people attending the Fist Full of films Galah Awards on Saturday night at the Darwin Entertainment Centre it was a night to remember for Territory filmmakers.

The work definitely paid off for Walpiri filmmaker Jason Japaljarri Woods who took out the Galah for Best Film with his beautifully crafted claymation Jack and Jones – the story of two boys growing up on community who face some big challenges when they head into town for a party.Jason has been working on a series of short claymation pieces with PAW Media in Central Australia which were also awarded the Galah for Best Animation and a Judges Commendation.

And taking it out for the kids were some of our youngest filmmakers in the Territory – Best Indigenous film to students from Centralian Senior College for their hit Walk the Line; Best Cinematography to Maxim Hussey for his quirky and clever film Evil Pig; Best Youth Film to Nathaniel Kelly for his take on a teenager’s haircut and the People’s Choice Award was voted for by the audience to three young students David Bitzer, Jacob Hazeldine and Zoe Mitchell for their horror mockumentary on old Brown’s Mart Theatre in Darwin. Nice work guys!
